Secret to Happiness

The student approached the old master meditating by the side of the river.
He asked the master to teach him the secrets of happiness
They sat in silence and in time, a log floated past them
The old master said. “Like that log, the river of life will bring things to you.
If you like what the river of life brings……..resist the urge to grasp it too tightly because the river will eventually take it away.
If you don’t like what the river brings you…….resist the urge to push it away or avoid it ….just know that whatever the river brings you, the river will eventually take it away.
To be happy, you must avoid pushing the river.
To be happy, you must understand that all things shall pass.
The old master turned back to the river and continued his meditation.
The student rose and continued on his way.
Over time, he too became enlightened.

Thanks Jane. The words are one of my favorite stories and all of the pictures were from places we have either hiked to, places we volunteered as camp hosts, or places we have camped in along the road during our 6 years traveling the country full time in our motor home. A couple of the pictures were from our four month trip to Alaska last year.
